Minister of Public Security Tiran Alas has stated that prominent lawyers who had opposed the appointment of Deshabandu Tennakoon as Acting IGP, have taken billions of rupees to appear in court on behalf of drug lords.
Speaking at an event in the Matara police division, he has added that in the backdrop of the ‘Aragalaya’ protests, police were left with no time to take measures on drug peddlers and the underworld.
As a result, such activities grew rampant in the country, the minister had pointed out.
