Ranil under pressure to form UNP govt. Featured

Noting that they cannot govern with president Maithripala sirisena any further, senior UNP ministers are exerting pressure on prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to form a government of their own party, say Sirikotha sources.

They are of the view that a main reason for the party’s defeat at the LG poll is the party leadership’s failure to counter the malicious statements made by the president against them at the election platform.

These ministers have also criticized the president’s conduct for political gains by going against the decisions taken by UNP ministers.

They have urged the PM to take a quick decision, or else face ruination of their party, the sources say.

The UNP has 107 seats in parliament and it needs six more MPs for a majority.
