It was reported that a plot of land near the famous Mahaiyawa Tunnel located on the A9 Road section from Kandy to Katugastota has been put up for sale placing the tunnel at risk.
The steep slope area from near the tunnel towards the Kandy Private Nursing Home (Kandy Private Hospital – KPH) building has already been identified as a landslide risk area.
From the reports issued so far by the relevant institutions such as the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) and the Urban Development Authority (UDA), it is evident that they do not encourage any development activities in the area.
It was said that even during a light rain, the soil in this sloping area would break and fall down.
Next to the disputed land is a venue belonging to Indra Traders, which imports and sells vehicles, and they have also complained about the move to sell this land.
It was reported that the plotting of this land belonging to a resident of Singapore is being done with the intervention of a famous lawyer.
