Mahanayake Theros urge not to implement 13A
The Mahanayake Theros’ have formally urged President Ranil Wickremesinghe not to implement the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
The letter had been handed over to the President when he had called upon the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asigiri Chapters today (02).
The Mahanayake Theros have pointed out that the President’s statement on the full implementation of the 13A had created a state of confusion in the country.
The letter notes that the 13A would lead to serious issues concerning the country’s independence, territorial integrity, and National Security and that provision of police and land powers and related matters in the 13A would further pave the way to divisions in the country.
