‘Mahāvaṃsa’ named a World Heritage!

The ‘Mahāvaṃsa’ has been declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.

The Mahāvaṃsa is known as one of the world’s longest continued historical records which showcases the history of Sri Lanka in chronological order from the 6th century BC.

UNESCO said Mahāvaṃsa is the first of its kind in South Asia.

Accordingly, the Great Chronicle of Sri Lanka, the ‘Mahāvaṃsa’ has been listed among the 64 new items of documentary heritage inscribed on the UNESCO’s Memory of the World (MoW) International Register in 2023.
