A man had been arrested over allegedly murdering his mother-in-law while injuring his wife and daughter yesterday (Aug. 20).
According to the Police, an investigation had been launched after receiving a complaint regarding the incident, that had occured in the Lewangama area of the Galapitamada police division.
The deceased, a 55-year-old woman from Atalawatta, Lewangama, was reportedly involved in an argument with the suspect over a monetary dispute.
The suspect had allegedly struck her on the head with a rock, causing severe injuries. She had later succumbed to injuries after being admitted to Karawanella Base Hospital.
Police investigation also revealed that the suspect had also injured his wife and daughter with a sharp weapon during the altercation.
The 44-year-old suspect has been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
