A businessman who was kidnapped by another for not paying back a loan of Rs.5 million has been rescued from Balangoda, the Nittambuwa Police said.
The victim had obtained the loan in 2018 and he was kidnapped by the lender due to non-payment of the loan for several years.
The suspect has called the businessman’s sister demanding her to pay the amount back. He has threatened to kill the businessman if the amount is not paid.
Following the phone call, the sister has complained to the Nittambuwa Police. Police investigations revealed that the victim has been detained in Balangoda.
Police said that the suspect who kidnapped the businessman has not been arrested yet and investigations are underway to arrest him.
