Man remanded for hurling slipper at foreigner

A man who faces charges of hurling a slipper at a foreigner traveling on the ‘Udarata Menike’ upcountry train a few days back, has been remanded.

Taking up the case yesterday (24), Acting Magistrate of the Bandarawela Magistrate court had ordered the suspect to be remanded until March 08.

The suspect, has been identified as a resident of the Walasbedda area, Bandarawela, and a father of one.

Video footage showing the suspect hurling a slipper at the train which hit a foreigner on the face, had gone viral on social media, sparking public outage and prompting immediate action by the authorities.
