A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to strangle a police constable who was on traffic duty at the Galle Face roundabout, reports say.
The police constable who faced this incident is attached to Kollupitiya police station.
The suspect, a 32 year old, had apparently sneaked up on the policeman from behind and attempted to strangle him when civilians at the scene had swiftly come to the rescue and handed over the suspect to the police.
After being produced before the JMO, it has been revealed that the suspect’s mind has been distorted due to excessive use of alcohol and drugs, according to a senior police officer.
