Ayurveda Commissioner General Dr. M. D. J. Abeygunawardena said that laws will be enacted to allow only males to massage males and females to massage females.
The Commissioner General said the new decision has been taken since sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS have become widespread through massage parlours.
Massage parlours must be registered with the Ayurvedic Department and an experienced doctor should also be on duty.
The Commissioner General further said that the staff engaged in massage activities should possess professional knowledge and training.
