Milk powder imports to be stopped next year!

The Ministry of Agriculture has paid its attention to stop milk powder imports by next year (2024).

The data released from the livestock sector said that the fresh milk currently produced locally is 42% of the total requirement.

Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said that more than USD 600 million are spent to import milk powder annually to meet the country’s milk demand.

He said the country has the capacity to produce the amount of milk the country needs by uplifting the dairy industry.

Meanwhile, the agriculture sector said that 750 million liters of milk are needed to meet the annual milk demand.
