A powerful Cabinet minister and his son are frequently putting pressure on the police officers to get Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne alias Harak Kata released, police headquarters sources said.
Harak Kata, who is a large-scale drug trafficker and organized crime gang member, is being detained and investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on detention orders.
Police sources said that this minister and his son have worked hard to get the criminal released, and they have launched an internal operation for this purpose.
The minister has even informed the police officers to remove the detention orders imposed on the suspect.
Sources said the police officers are facing many difficulties due to frequent pressure exerted by this minister and son.
