Ministerial committee to look into Customs detained goods!

A ministerial committee has been appointed to speed up the investigations in relation to the goods detained by the Sri Lanka Customs.

This decision has been taken due to the time-consuming processes resulting in many economic losses including damages and destruction of the detained goods.

Accordingly, the President has given instructions to speed up the procedures currently being followed by the Customs.

The Committee has been appointed to study these issues and also identify if there’s any amendments that should be made to the Customs Ordinance followed by recommendations.

The committee members are,

* Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva
* Minister of Plantations and Industries Dr. Ramesh Pathirana
* Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya
* Minister of State for Investment Promotion Dilum Amunugama and
* Minister of State for Finance Shehan Semasinghe
