Deputy Minister – Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunarathna has stated that the government fertilizer subsidy funds have been allegedly embezzled and not received by some farmers.
He revealed this in Parliament today (March 18) while responding to a question raised by MP Susanta Kumara Nawaratna.
He mentioned that it was discovered that a total of 155 farmers in the Anuradhapura district alone had been defrauded of Rs.2,934,310 in fertilizer subsidy funds.
The Deputy Minister also stated that a female official had been arrested in connection with the incident.
A complaint over this financial misappropriation has been filed with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and further investigations are underway, the Deputy Minister confirmed.
