A Buddhist monk who visited the Somawathiya Rajamaha Vihara was killed in an elephant attack this morning (05), the Pulasthipura Police said.
Police said the monk was attacked by an elephant near the Sungawila Wildlife Office when he was returning after visiting the Somawathiya Temple at around 04:45 this morning.
The Pulasthipura Police said the deceased monk aged about 40 was identified as Girithale Sri Maithree Thera from Dompe.
