More phones than citizens in Sri Lanka!

It has been revealed that 31,382,000 phones including mobile phones are used by people in Sri Lanka.

The population of the country is approximately 22 million.

According to the 2022 annual report released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the number of landlines used by 100 people in the country is 12.

The total number of landlines are 2,652,000.

Including mobile phones, the number of phones used by 100 people is 142.

Internet density is 97.7 per 100 people.

According to the Digital Quality Life index last year (2022), Sri Lanka has been ranked 89th out of 117 countries, the Central Bank said.

Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill passed

The Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill was passed by a special majority, without amendments in Parliament today (Feb. 17).
A division was called for the Third Reading of the Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill which was passed in Parliament. During the Third Reading vote, 158 votes were cast in favor.

SL women’s squad for NZ tour, announced

A 16-member Sri Lanka Women’s Squad has been selected by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Selection Committee to tour New Zealand later this week.
The team, captained by Chamari Athapaththu, will leave the country on Feb. 22 and will play 03 ODIs and 03 T20Is.

The ODIs will be played on 04th, 07th and 09th of March, while the T20Is will be played on the 14th, 16th and 18th of March.
