It has been alleged that the ‘Tharunyayata Hetak’ organization is yet to pay a staggering Rs. 1,112,889.14 to the Ceylon Electricity Board.
Levelling the allegation, Ceylon Electricity Board United Trade Union Alliance Convenor Ranjan Jayalal says that this sum is to be paid in return for the two generators it had rented from the CEB for the 2014 Hambantota ‘Poson Kalapaya’.
The event is said to have been organized by Hambantota district MP – Namal Rajapaksa.
According to an estimate of Rs. 1,522,889.14, the organization had rented the generators after making an advance payment of Rs. 400,000.
The CEB legal officer had also sent a Letter of Demand in this regard on May 31, 2018, which had stated that legal redress would be sought if the sum is not paid within 14 days.
On March 25, 2019, the CEB had again formally informed the organization to pay the remaining 1,112,889.14.
However, Mr. Jayalal says that the organization led by Namal Rajapaksa, is yet to pay this sum.
