A Captain attached to the Navy Headquarters has been arrested on Nov. 18 by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over an investigation into the alleged abduction, unlawful detention, and enforced disappearance of an individual 13 years ago.
The arrested officer is a 48-year-old resident of Giriulla and Maharagama.
He faces charges over the unlawful detention and disappearance of a man identified as Ganeralalage Shantha Samaraweera, a resident of Vajirawatta, Katupotha, which occurred on or around July 26, 2010.
This case had previously led to the arrest of 03 police officers in the Alawwa Police Station.
