NDU delegation from China, visits Navy HQ (Pics)

A National Defence University (NDU) delegation from the People’s Republic of China, currently in Sri Lanka as part of their overseas study tour, visited the Navy Headquarters yesterday (June 18). 

During this visit, the members of the delegation called on the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

The NDU delegation, which comprised 41 student officers, was led by Rear Admiral Hu Gangfeng. Meanwhile, the delegation will be in Sri Lanka from 16th to 19th June.

During their official interaction, Rear Admiral Hu Gangfeng exchanged several views with Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera on several matters of mutual interests. The occasion culminated with an exchange of mementoes, signifying the importance of the occasion.

In addition, the delegation members took part in a briefing by the Commander of the Navy who outlined the roles and responsibilities of the Sri Lanka Navy. The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake, Director General Operation, Rear Admiral Nishantha Peiris, Director General Training, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Naval Assistant to the Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Kosala Warnakulasooriya and Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Colombo, Senior Colonel Zhou Bo were also present on this occasion.

15 senior Police officers, including 6 DIGs transferred

15 senior police officers, including 06 DIGs, have been transferred with immediate effect, police said.

The transfers, approved by the National Police Commission, are based on service requirements.

DIGs G.I.D.R. Wijesinghe, G.A.N.L. Wijesena, I.B.T. Sugathapala, L.A.U. Sarath Kumara, A.L.U.N Liyanage and A.S.P.C. Wedamulla are among those transferred, alongside six SSPs and three SPs, including the Director of the Police Special Bureau.

Gunathilaka Rajapaksha withdraws police complaint

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksha has yesterday (July 01) withdrawn the Police complaint filed against fellow party member MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage, accusing the latter of physical assault at the Presidential Secretariat. 

The clash had reportedly taken place on June 03.

Gunathilaka Rajapaksha’s son had filed a complaint with the Colombo-Fort Police claiming that MP Aluthgamage had assaulted his father during the party meeting and that his father had to undergo a surgery following a leg injury.

Meanwhile, cMP Mahindananda Aluthgamage had responded that he had not assaulted MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksha, saying the latter had fallen down the stairs. 

MP Aluthgamage had also warned of initiating legal action against MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksha for raising false allegations against him.

Policeman linked to Uddika’s shooting had left Malaysia also!

ASP Sanjeewa Mahanama, who is sought over the shooting incident of former MP – Uddika Premarathne, has left for another country from Malaysia, reports say.

It is said that the CID has initiated a comprehensive investigation in this regard.

The CID has learnt that the ASP Mahanama, who had initially left for Malaysia with his family, had not spent at least a week in Malaysia.

According to reports, they have sought the assistance of INTERPOL to identify his whereabouts.
