New regulation for alcohol manufacturers

Published

on

Commissioner General of Excise, Mr. U.L. Udaya Kumara has stated that it is mandatory for all locally produced alcohol productions to have their manufactured date printed on the relevant bottle or can, from today onwards (April 01).

Alcohol manufacturers are required to print the production date below the bottle cap and above the affixed label.

However, Trade Unions in the industry allege that this decision, which comes despite the security stickers imported from India through international Tenders, proves the lack of faith in the sticker itself.

TUs further argue that affixing security stickers on alcohol bottles was a procedure that had been approved in Parliament, and that the Commissioner General of Excise has no authority to override it.

Additionally, they highlight that liquor manufacturers have to purchase machinery at a great expense to print the manufacturing date on the bottle.
