One arrested over Moratuwa shooting

The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a suspect linked to the shooting incident at Soysapura, Moratuwa.

The suspect, arrested in Panadura, was handed over to the Mt. Lavinia Police.

The 34-year old individual, who is resident of Angulana, has been identified as the chief suspect in the murder of Ranjan de Silva, a Councillor of the Dehiwela-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council in Ratmalana on the 24th of May 2018.

Police said the suspect was in remand custody over the murder and was released on bail.

His phone was seized by police and the suspect will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today (31).

Gunmen had opened fire from inside a car at a restaurant in Soysapura, Moratuwa, damaging the glass at the entrance, on the 29th and had fled the area.

A Sergeant and two Constables, who were on duty at a roadblock near the restaurant when the incident took place,  have been interdicted.
