The constable is accused of aiding MP Bathiudeen to abscond and evade arrest.
Several Police teams, including a team of officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, were deployed yesterday to arrest MP Rishad Bathiudeen.
The Attorney General directed Police to arrest MP Bathiudeen, after the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court ordered that Police can arrest the MP without a warrant.
The Magistrate deemed that the charges against MP Bathiudeen do not require an arrest warrant.
The warrant was ordered to be obtained on charges of criminal misappropriation of public funds and violation of election laws over the transportation of internally displaced persons in Sri Lanka Transport Board owned buses.
The incident was reported during the 2019 Presidential Election.
Meanwhile, Acting Police Media Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said an accountant employed by former Minister Bathiudeen was also been arrested in Wellawatte in relation to a case filed for the violation of election laws.
