Speaking at a media briefing today former MP Wajira Abeywardana claimed this has been made evident with the government hoping to generate major revenue through excise taxes on liquor, cigarettes and tobacco, adding therefore the government is anticipating fatalities.
The former MP claimed the Budget should be formulated in a manner that encourages people to opt for healthier eating and living choices, particularly amidst the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
He however claimed when taking the 2021 Budget into consideration, the country is at an unpleasant juncture.
