Dhammika Peniya & clay pots
The Health minister falling sick is another hit against the controversial syrup by a one Dhammika Perera of Kegalle, locally known as 'Dhammika Peniya', which is said to be containing anti- Covid19 properties.
The health minister was one of the Parliament members who had tried out the syrup. State minister Piyal Nishantha was another.
Speaking in parliament recently, JVP leader Anura Kumara slammed Ms. Wanniarachchi and the government for publicly endorsing the syrup, which is yet to be clinically proven.
“What did the health minister do? She drank it. I urge her not to do this again for the sake of her own safety, because if someone brings a vial of poison to her claiming that it’s a COVID cure, she’ll drink it,” he said.
In Nov. 2020, the health minister was also severely criticised after photos of her and several government bigwigs hurling clay pots into river water went viral on social media. The pots were said to contain 'miracle water' provided by PM Mahinda Rajapaksa's personal physician - Dr. Eliyantha White.
