Final rites of Edwin Ariyadasa to be held under state patronage Featured

Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed to hold the final rites of late Veteran journalist - Edwin Ariyadasa, under state patronage.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Mass media and the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs are to hold the final rites.

The PM has briefed the secretaries of the two ministries today.

Kalakeerthi Dr. Edwin Ariyadasa passed away yesterday (22).

Ariyadasa was born in Unawatuna, Galle on December 3, 1922 and was educated at Mahinda College Galle and University of Ceylon.

He played a pioneering role in promoting media as a subject in higher education and prepared the syllabus for mass communication at the University of Kelaniya

He worked in a number of newspapers including Daily News, Sunday Observer, Silumina and Janatha. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the popular Sinhalese journal Nawa Yugaya. He also worked as a lecturer at the faculty of Arts at the University of Colombo.
