Former President Maithripala Sirisena had been the key figure in freezing these funds in the past.
This was taken up during the 'Turning Point' political programme telecast on Siyatha TV yesterday (17). Yesterday's programme featured former President Maithripala Sirisena.
Speaking, he said, "it was the same man who caught the infamous Central Bank bond scam who took measures to freeze these funds."
Meanwhile, speaking in parliament yesterday (17), former President and MP Mithripala Sirisena requested Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa to amend laws to prevent banks, insurance companies, leasing companies and Finance Companies acting as looters rather than protecting, in certain matters covered with the laws passed by the Parliament leading the people to poverty and the bankruptcy of certain business institutions.
He said that these laws have been formulated with the full awareness of the Central Bank officials but have been covered to the public and Parliament. He added due to this situation a number of suicides occur every year.
