He points out that under Article 112 of the Penal Code it is a criminal offense for a person to neglect a duty assigned to him by law.

He also said that it is considered a criminal offence committed by DIG Deshabandu if he did not take action to prevent a crime.

Attorney-at-Law Upul Kumarapperuma further stated that they should act very cautiously and that the rights of the people of the country should not be compromised.

He made this statement at a media briefing held in Colombo.
