President’s Secretary, Army Commander to assume duties on Tuesday

President’s Secretary Austin Fernando is scheduled to assume duties next Tuesday (July 4).

According to government sources, until the President’s Secretary takes up appointment the Army Commander cannot take up his duties. Hence he too will take up duties on Tuesday.

No one has been appointed to the post of Commander after the position fell vacant with General Crisanthe De Silva being appointed as the Chief of Defence Staff.

However at present, there is a three way battle for the post of Army Commander between Major General Bonniface Perera, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe and Major General Mahesh Senanayake.
