Rice cannot be sold at ‘maximum retail price’

Rice cannot be sold at the maximum retail price indicated in the gazette notification issued on three varieties of rice, said the Maradagahamula Rice Producers Association.

Its President B.K. Ranjith told media that it was not possible to adhere to the stipulated price due to the high price small and medium scale rice mill owners  have to pay for the paddy.

The Consumer Affairs Authority had specified the price for locally produced samba except Keeri and Suduru samba at a maximum retail price of Rs. 90, Nadu Rs. 80 and Kekulu Rs. 78, in the gazette notification issued on August 4.
