Youth who sent drone over Ruwanweliseya released

The youth accused of operating his drone with a camera over the Anuradhapura Ruwanweliseya and it crashing into the Chaithya, was cleared of all charges and released by the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge, Harshana Kekunawela.

The youth who was released is E.M. Chathura Ekanayake of Alawathugoda, Welipaara.

The judge having considered the testimony of the Anuradhapura Police, had released the youth.

The police had earlier told Court that the suspect youth had visited Anuradhapura for a Kapruk Pooja and he had operated his drone at the premises. However he had later lost control of the drone with the camera and it had collided with the Ratnamali Chaithya pinnacle, then crashed onto the Devatha Kotuwa, before landing on the Semaluwa.

Police investigations had revealed that no damage had been caused to the Ratnamali Chaithya due to the incident.
