Located at Matara and Embilipitiya, both are more than 10 years old, and generate around 120 megawatts of power.

During previous shortages, electricity was bought from these two plants.

The ministry of power has appointed a technical evaluation committee to buy the two plants.

The TUs say this matter has been raised in parliament.
