'Certain 20A clauses inconsistent with constitution'

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that some clauses of the 20th Amendment are inconsistent with the Constitution and would require the approval of 2/3 of Parliament and a referendum.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya made the above statement in accordance to a Supreme Court ruling.

The 20th Amendment to the Constitution, aimed at holding elections for all Provincial Councils on the same date, was scheduled to be taken up for debate in Parliament tomorrow.
