Army extends general amnesty for deserters

The 24 day General Amnesty period for Army deserters to obtain legal discharge has been extended until November 22,  said Military Spokesman Major General Roshan Seneviratne.

Earlier, the General Amnesty period commenced on October 23, and was expected to end today, November 15.

According to the Military Spokesman, 8052 Army deserters had surrendered during this amnesty period.

The Army Headquarters said among those who surrendered were 10 officers, 8 Officer Cadets. A substantial number of those who surrendered had obtained  legal discharge, while the rest are in the process of being legally discharged, the SLA media unit said.
