The charges were that irregularities had taken place when purchasing properties for the Lanka Electricity Company (Private) Limited and that he had prepared an AG’s report unlawfully.
Accordingly, former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, Court of Appeal Judge A. H. M. D. Nawaz and former Secretary to the Power and Energy Ministry M. M. C. Ferdinando were summoned to appear at the court on March 08 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara.
The former government had appointed the Siripala Gamlath Pathiraja and Ratnapala Dias Jayatillake committees to investigate this matter and in their reports they determined that a discrepancy had taken place and recommended action to be taken against the responsible officials.
It also alleged that by preventing legal action from being taken despite the findings of the committees, the then Chief Justice Mohan Peiris who served during that period between December 01 to 30, 2010 and then Solicitor General A. H. M. D. Nawaz had committed a crime under the Bribery Act.
Hence, the Colombo Chief Judge Lal Ranasinghe Bandara issued an order to summon the three suspects to appear in Court on March 08.
