The employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will not be paid bonuses and allowances for unused holidays in 2024, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.
Minister Wijesekera said this during a discussion with representatives of 35 trade unions of the CEB held on the 14th.
The minister also discussed the programme of restructuring the CEB with the trade union representatives.
However, trade union representatives pointed out that this discussion was not successful.
The minister said that since the CEB does not have funds, the board has to collect at least 50 cents from the salaries of the employees instead of giving bonuses.
The trade union representatives have said that the lack of money in the CEB was not due to the fault of the employees but due to the action of the authorities.
The minister has said that he will forward the CEB Restructuring Bill to the Cabinet for approval on the 24th.
Meanwhile, the Power Ministry in a statement said that Minister Kanchana Wijesekera discussed the progress of the proposed restructuring programme, the format of the new CEB Act, the time frame for the implementation of the terms related to the restructuring process, the human resource audit and the method of assigning employees and regarding the retirement and employee benefits with the CEB Union representatives.
The minister has also informed them about the assistance provided by development agencies in this process, the establishment of the restructuring bureau of the CEB and the establishment of the proposed new company.
