No danger to SL from Indian Ocean quake

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 hit the Indian Ocean on Wednesday, according to the US Geological Survey.

According to the US agency, the earthquake, with its epicenter in the southern Indian Ocean, struck at around 0700 GMT and its depth was recorded at nearly 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

However, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has said that there was no danger to Sri Lanka due to the earthquake, which was recorded nearly 800 km Southeast of Sri Lanka.
