Public Security Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala yesterday (Dec. 26) said that there is no risk of a drone attack on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, according to Government intelligence.

He also said that it is possible to make necessary changes in the former President’s security personnel allocation.

Watagala said this during a TV programme while commenting on a recent allegation raised by Attorney-At-Law Manoj Gamage.

The Deputy Minister said that the police will now work to obtain a statement from Gamage.

“Our Intelligence Services mention no such drone attack. Gamage must now explain where this information comes from… He should be careful when saying something as an entire society could be misled.  I am the Deputy Minister of Public Security… Even I came alone today,” he said.

Watagala also alleged that some police officers are on the payroll of those who are engaged in organised crime and drug trafficking activities.
