The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) said that no permission has been given to the companies providing mobile phone services to increase the prices of phone packages.
TRCSL Director Indrajith Handapangoda said that if the prices of the packages are increased, the Commission will revoke the licences given to the telephone companies and will take appropriate action according to the TRCSL Act.
He also requested all telephone consumers to submit the information to the Commission along with the facts regarding an increase in the price of any telephone package they have activated.
He also said that there is no truth in the news published in the media including social media that the price of mobile phone packages has been increased.
Handapangoda said the Commission had inquired from all the mobile phone companies and accordingly all the mobile phone companies have informed in writing that no price increase has been done.
He further requested from the public not to get fooled by such false propaganda.
Handapangoda told the media the Commission is already making arrangements to take action within the existing legal framework against journalists and media organisations who are propagating such falsehoods.
