The national policy for admission of students to the intermediate grades of schools is to be presented to the Cabinet today (02).

According to this policy, students are admitted to grades two, three and four based on the waiting list prepared in relation to students who are unable to enter the first grade. Student admissions to grades seven and above are based on the marks of the Scholarship examination.

No opportunity will be given to admit students outside the waiting list to intermediate grades in the future.

Admission to fifth grade will not be allowed and admission to sixth grade will be based on Scholarship marks only.

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said students will be admitted to intermediate grades only according to this policy and accordingly, there is no need to visit the Ministry to get the students admitted to schools.

The minister said that even some students who get higher marks in the scholarship exam fail to enter into desired schools and added the children would not be subjected to such injustices under the new method.

He said strict action will be taken against the principals who violate this policy. The minister emphasized that the children of state workers who are being transferred and the children of those who are returning from foreign service will also be given the school decided by the ministry.
