Notice issued on school closures

The Ministry of Education has instructed Provincial Chief Secretaries, Provincial Secretaries, and Directors of Education to discuss and decide whether or not to open schools amid the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

The Ministry has issued a statement in this regard today (Oct. 14).

Meanwhile, the Director of Education of the Western Province has announced that all schools in the Colombo Educational Zone will be closed tomorrow (Oct 15).

The Chief Secretary of the Western Province has also announced that all schools in the Gampaha and Kelaniya Education Zones, and the Kolonnawa and Kaduwela Education Divisions will be closed tomorrow.

Four Sri Lankan players have been included in the ICC men’s ODI team of 2024.

Sri Lankan players Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga have been named in this manner.

Also, Charith Asalanka has been named as the captain while Kusal Mendis has been named as the wicket keeper of the team.

2 including Salochana Gamage granted bail

Two persons including former Western Provincial Councillor – Salochana Gamage, who were arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe, have been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (24).

Each suspect was granted bail, subject to a cash bail of Rs. 25,000, two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each, and an overseas travel ban.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali also ordered that the guarantors must be close relatives of the two suspects.
