Preliminary work to establish a university centered in Nuwara Eliya District is being carried out, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
Speaking in Parliament, he said that Minister Jeevan Thondaman has organized a programme in this regard, and that he visited Kotagala to investigate the project.
He said that it has been 200 years since the people of the upcountry estates arrived in Sri Lanka and that the government is working to ensure that no community is treated unfairly.
