A person has been injured in a shooting incident carried out by the police at the Gaala Junction area in Kiribathgoda at around 2:30 am today (April 11) and has been admitted to the Ragama Hospital.
Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga says that the suspect had tried to flee from a police team.
Police had fired shots to the ground to prevent the escape, but a bullet ricocheted and struck the suspect in the back.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect was carrying a toy gun and is believed to have been planning a criminal act.
