UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said that over 70 journalists have been killed in 2022 simply for performing a “vital” part for society.

Guterres voiced concern about the ongoing violence against journalists in a tweet on Wednesday, the 2nd of November which coincides with International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.

Noting that most of these crimes go unsolved, he said, “We must end the common culture of impunity and enable journalists to do their essential work.”
