Overseas travel ban on SDIG Tennakoon lifted

The overseas travel ban imposed on Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon was lifted today (July 07)

 The order was delivered by the Colombo Fort magistrate.

Tennakoon faced the ban over the incident last year where he was accused of assaulting demonstrators at the “GotaGoGama” protest site near Galle Face Green.

ODI & T20I squads against Kiwis, announced

The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has announced squads for the T20I and ODI series to be played against the New Zealand national men’s team.

The two T20I games will be played on Nov. 09 and 10 while the ODIs will be held on Nov. 13, 17 and 19.

RDICS, Dambulla will be the venue for the first three games, while the final two ODIs will be played at PICS Pallekele.

Restrictions on African Swine Fever control, eased

Sri Lanka’s Department of Animal Production and Health has announced steps to issue a new Gazette notification, relaxing some of the restrictions imposed earlier due to the African swine fever outbreak.

Director General of the department Dr. Hemali Kothalawala stated that permission has now been granted for the transportation of healthy animals.

Dr. Shafi acquitted from all charges

Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court today (Nov. 06) acquitted specialist Dr. Shafi Sihabdeen from all charges pertaining to his arrest and detention in 2019.

Due to the complainants failing to prove their accusations and on the Attorney General’s advice, Kurunegala Magistrate Bandula Gunaratne ordered Shafi Sihabdeen to be released from all charges.

He was detained under the Dr. Shafi, who had been accused of allegedly amassing assets through suspicious means and performing illegal sterilization surgeries without the consent of the relevant women, was later detained by the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

Also, the court also lifted the overseas travel ban which was imposed on Dr. Shafi Sihabdeen.
