Election Commission sources said that its member P.S.M. Charles has not resigned from the Commission.
Media reported that a gazette notice related to the local government election has been sent to the printing department and Ms. Charles has also placed her signature on it.
The Election Commission Chairman also confirmed that Ms. Charles signed the gazette announcement which contains details related to youth votes.
Meanwhile, the returning officers in each district have issued extraordinary gazette notices announcing that the local government election will be held on March 9 from 7:00 am to 4.00 pm.
The Election Commission said that 80,720 candidates belonging to 58 political parties and 329 independent groups will contest in this year’s local government elections.
