Agriculture Commissioner General Rohana Rajapaksa has assured that the government has already credited Rs.1292 million to farmers accounts under the programme of providing fertilizer subsidy for paddy farmers.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo, he said that this allocation was made to 109,000 paddy farmers in 22 districts.
According to Mr. Rajapaksa, the most number of beneficiaries of this fertilizer subsidy were reported from Ampara District, where Rs.291 million was provided to 19,900 farmers.
A sum of Rs. 15,000 per hectare is given under the first phase while Rs. 10,000 per hectare is to be given under the second phase.
Noting that the plans are underway to expedite the process, he urged the farmer community not to be misled by false rumours.
