As water levels of the Diyawanna Oya continue to rise rapidly amid the torrential rains, measures have been taken to prevent a possible flooding of the parliament.

The Army states that the 18 Sri Lanka National Guard troops under the 144 Brigade of the 14 Division had stacked sand bags to prevent water seepage towards the entrance for Members of Parliament as well as to the ground floors of the Parliament Complex upon the request of the Sergeant-at-arms of the Parliament.

Meanwhile, it is also reported that the furniture in the ground floor committee rooms have also been shifted to higher levels to face a possible flooding.

The Navy and Parliament police are remaining vigilant on the water levels of the Diyawannawa Oya.
