Parliament electricity bill exceeds Rs. 73 mn.

The total electricity bill of the Parliament complex between May – October, 2023, is a whopping Rs. 73.1 million, the ‘Aruna’ newspaper reports.

The complex has 12 electricity connections in total.

The total of electricity bills in last October alone has been over Rs. 12.8 million (Rs. 12,852,000), it adds.

Meanwhile, the total electricity bill of the Speaker’s official residence from May – October, 2023 is Rs. 2.4 million.

The ‘Aruna’ news report further adds :

In addition, Parliament has also mentioned that there are 120 and 15 electricity connections for the MP housing complex in Madiwela and at the officials’ quarters in Jayawadanagama respectively.

There are currently 109 MPs living in the Madiwela MP quarters. According to Parliament, the bills will be paid and later deducted from the MPs’ salaries.

The total of the electricity bills between May – October, 2023, in relation to Madiwela MP’s residences stands at Rs.4.6 million.
