Party leaders call for removal of MP Ali Sabri Raheem

A proposal for the removal of Puttalam district MP Ali Sabri Raheem, who was recently arrested at the BIA for possessing undeclared gold and smart phones, was reportedly tabled at the party leader’s meeting yesterday (25 May).

The relevant proposal was initially presented by Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M. A. Sumanthiran and was affirmed by Opposition MP Lakshman Kiriella, while representatives of the ruling party had also agreed to the proposal.

Accordingly, the party leaders agreed that the controversial MP Raheem should be asked to resign from his post by way of a proposal signed by all Members of Parliament.

CAA seizes bottled water stock in Hemmatagama over violations

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) raided a factory in Hemmatagama, Mawanella, seizing over 3,000 bottles of drinking water prepared for distribution.

Investigations revealed that the factory’s Health Ministry registration certificate had expired and was obtained using false information. The seized stock included bottles of varying sizes from 500 ml to 19 liters.

The CAA emphasized that falsely claiming standards or endorsements violates the CAA Act, and legal action will be taken against the violators. Regular raids are conducted to prevent consumer deception.
