The police constable who suffered grave injuries when he was hit by a car near the Independence Roundabout in Colombo 7 last evening (05), has succumbed to injuries early today.
When the police officer was handling traffic, a car ran over him and crashed into the pond at the roundabout.
The police constable was a 25-year-old resident of Walasmulla.
The driver, who is a 28-year-old IT engineer, has been arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police.
Police sources said the suspect is the son of a retired Senior Superintendent of Police and a doctor who worked at the Police Hospital.
